Nikon D600: my thoughts

When I wrote here about D800 soon after its release, I pointed out few alternatives for myself, none of which were really satisfying - as I wanted to stay faithful to Nikon brand and didn't want to waste $3k+ on new camera body.
I've been reading rumors about D600 for months. Now it is finally announced!
D600, unlike D800, proved to be the perfect choice for me now.
I'm still happy with my D90 in all aspects, except for sensor size. But D600 is kind of an updated full-frame version of D90 - what else to wish for?

Why D600 is better than D800 (features important for me)
24MP / 36MP - 12MP is definitely not enough now, but 36? I was discouraged when I learnt about that feature of D800, and I'm glad that D600 hasn't inherited its sensor (of course it couldn't).
5.5 fps / 4.6 fps - I know that technically 4,6 fps on 36 MP is cooler, but still.
760 g / 900 g - I'm a fragile girl (D90 body weighs only 620g!). And size does matter too - look at the picture above.
$2099 / $2999 - no comment.
D600 features the same video recording quality, the same great LCD screen as D800.
So no question here. Ready to go full-frame!

Waiting is over

Nikon finally announced D800 (3,5 years after its predecessor D700).
What does this new toy have to offer?
Pros are obvious: full-frame Nikon camera with more than 12 MP sensor and less than $4000 price.
Let's jump to the subjective cons:
36 megapixels is way more that I need  for every rational purpose: 21 MP is enough to have XXXL images for iStock; okay, let's add a couple MP for cropping, but 36?.. Well, I understand that it isn't really a drawback. You can always switch to non-full-resolution images, so you don't have to upgrade your PC (to store and process 76 MB RAW files) and all the lenses (to resolve 36 MP).
Only 4 frames per second in full-resolution (my D90 has 4.5) - same solution as above - switch to DX format and get 6 fps. Honestly, 4 fps seems to be enough for me.
There is no swivel screen - slightly disappointing, I think that could be fun and handy to use.

My options:
- buy D800 in a year or two
- wait for Canon response (5D Mark III) -> 5D Mark II gets cheaper -> change system and buy 5D Mark II
- buy cheap D700 (not likely because of its 12 MP sensor)
- forget about full-frame and wait for D400.

Saving money anyway :)

Nikon 1

I've been waiting for so long for some Canon 5D Mark II analog from Nikon, and sure I'm not the only one. And now... this.

Nikon 1 J1- mirrorless compact camera with interchangeable lenses. Main target group - young women.
Well, I understand that there are such things as competition and marketing strategy, but can't help feeling offended. Twice - as a Nikon user and as a woman.

And I simply don't see why anyone would upgrade from a point-and-shoot to this.
Crop factor 2.7, some sort of AI that picks the best picture instead of you, poor video quality... And pink color. Facepalm.
Where's Nikon D800?
